"Last March my son was diagnosed with a form of leukemia.
He had six months of rigorous chemotherapy. They sent us home
from the hospital with a protocol we had to follow where he
had to take nightly pills. He was only five years old and
could not swallow pills, so we crushed them up and gave them
to him. This would cause him to gag and throw up. Each evening,
several hours before he was to take the medicine, he would
start to get nauseous in anticipation. This was exasperating
as parents: to watch our son, who had been through so much,
being traumatized by one more thing. We had heard about a
pharmacy that could make tablets into liquid and flavor it
in my son's choice of flavors, so we decided to give it a
try. He picked bubblegum for one, banana for another and apple/watermelon
for another. Now he takes them with no problems. It is wonderful
for us because we know he is getting all of his medication;
before there was always the question of how much he was actually
getting. It has changed the quality of our lives and especially
our son's life. I think every pediatrician and hospital should
have this available to patients."

"In the field of pediatrics, compliance, when it comes
to medicating children, is one of the most difficult issues.
I usually give antibiotics for a full ten-day course. If it
is bad tasting, you end up with many children not taking every
dose in its entirety or
taking a shorter course. Sometimes this is not enough to eradicate
the infection in the child. This is a dangerous situation
because you can get worse infections superimposed on already
untreated ones. Getting a full ten days of a bad tasting antibiotic
in a child used to be extremely difficult. Now this is remedied
with FLAVORx, which offers a variety of flavors children like
and choose for themselves. Now, we rarely have children who
don't
finish their ten days."

"Thank you very much for helping a ‘special needs’
baby and his parents. My daughter's baby boy was born with
a condition that required his food and phenobarbital to be
administered by a feeding tube. Eventually he was able to
take breast milk without tube, but not the phenobarbital because
of the unpleasant taste. After reading an article in the newspaper,
I contacted you and you gave me several names of pharmacists
to contact in the Pittsburgh area where my daughter lives.
This story has a happy ending. The baby has been without the
feeding tube, taking his banana flavored phenobarbital, and
is a happier baby without the discomfort of the tube in his
throat. This parent and grandmother are happier to see Zashio's
life made easier."

"My child has a seizure disorder and was supposed to
take Zarontin liquid. It was horrible tasting: I tasted it.
We could not get her to keep it down. This medication was
crucial to her survival. We knew if she did not keep it down
she would end up in the hospital. We then heard about FLAVORx
and tried it. It was a miracle! Now she takes her medicine
just as the doctor directed."

Renee Krippner recalled her experience of trying to get her
son to take his medicine in an interview for the San Diego
Union-Tribune. In the interview, she said that her son routinely
spit out his anti-seizure
medication--until he tried it this week with grape flavoring.
“It's been a blessing...”.
Ms. Krippner makes a 40-mile drive to the San Diego Children's
Hospital Pharmacy to pick up her son's FLAVORx’d medication.

"I have 4 children. They consist of a 5 year old son,
a 3 year old daughter and 2 cats. Pill time has never been
easy, especially for the cats. Because of the ordeal, I even
opted to skip a few doses on more than one occasion. However,
once I heard about FLAVORx for animals, I tried it. Well,
I no longer have to hunt the cats down and force the medicine
in their mouths. Thank you, FLAVORx!"

"I love my dog, but he hates me whenever I come at him
with medicine. And he knows all the tricks in the book, too.
From peanut butter to cream cheese, my dog can lick a pill
clean and spit it out. We thought that was good enough for
“Stupid Pet Tricks”, but then again, we would
be the fools for not getting Sam to take his medicine.
Our veterinarian then told us about FLAVORx. We tried Crispy
Bacon, and now Sam comes to us at medicine time!"

"Rarely do I write testimonial letters, however, I do
wish to convey my appreciation of your flavoring system. My
office started your system... prior to that time, we used
a compounding pharmacy... and let our clients suffer through
pilling procedures.
We recovered our start-up costs the first week of use. I
had purchased several new pieces of equipment…about
the same time. These were to be new profit centers for the
practice. I have made far more with the FLAVORx System than
the new equipment…
The very best reason for using FLAVORx is achieving client
compliance in medicating their pet. I didn’t realize
the difference this would make in outcomes of treatment. We
use FLAVORx in most of our feline and exotic preparations
and advise it for dog owners as well. I have yet to hear a
complaint about the additional fee.
Any new medications not listed in your compendium we have
to compound, we call your 800 # hot line and get information
quickly and friendly. Please keep up the good work, and thank
you for helping me practice better medicine."

"We have been using FLAVORx long enough that people are
asking for it, indicating to us it is another tool to increase
client satisfaction and make our lives easier. We have even
found that a little ‘FLAVORx’ added to liquids…helps.
An example is Ivermectin that we use for Demodectic mange
treatment long-term. The owners often complain about difficulty
in getting their dog to swallow it. Compounding with FLAVORx
has stopped the complaints…it has become part of our
armamentarium of aids for dogs, cats, birds and who-knows-what-else."

"On behalf of our ‘captive-ating’ companions
here at BEAR , I would like to say thanks for providing us
with such a great way to make medicating some of our wild
friends a pleasant experience for all! We first became aware
of your system in the midst of a crisis with one of our geriatric
brown lemurs. Mr. Brown went into congestive heart failure
and had to be placed into a specially created area where we
could keep fresh oxygen flowing 24/7. Given that Mr. B was
not a handle-able animal, he had to be restrained in order
to provide him all of the medicines he needed every few hours,
around the clock.
Initially, he was too weak for the medicating to be a problem,
but as he began to recover, it was just an increasingly traumatic
experience. Given his age and the seriousness of his condition,
we truly did not want to cause this awesome little guy any
more stress or discomfort. We called some lemur specialists
and asked them for suggestions.
They told us about your system, and then it was FLAVORx to
the rescue! Mr. B loved the different flavors – most
notably Banana, of course! From that point forward, he began
to look forward to his ‘treat’ and just licked
up the medication. NO MORE STRESS!
Sadly, after several weeks of fighting a good fight, Mr.
B succumbed to congestive heart failure. But we know that
his last few weeks were made so much more comfortable, thanks
to FLAVORx.
Today, now that we have the FLAVORx System, we are conditioning
all of our exotic animals to readily accept a syringe with
flavoring so that, in the event of illness, we won’t
ever have to wonder again:
- How are we going to medicate an animal?
- Did they get the full dosage?
- How stressful is it going to be to the animal to have
to administer the meds (Do we have to capture and restrain?)?
- How many people do we have to put at risk in order to get this animal medicated?
Dealing with exotic animals every day, including some of the world’s top predators, may be extremely
rewarding, but it is never easy! But with your system of medicating our kids, you managed to make our
lives – and theirs -- that much easier! THANK YOU!"

“I purchased the FLAVORx System…prepared my first
prescription the next day, and within two weeks [it] had paid
for the product through the profits generated by it. Why
spend the time? For the:
- Hyperthyroid cat owned by the senior who cannot pill, and
so lost two pounds…
- 35-pound dog that needs loperamide, but a 2 mg capsule
is too much.
- 8-pound UTI cat that needed Baytril.
- 1.5 pound kitten with URI that gagged and vomited Pfizer’s
Clavamox liquid. The use of metronidazole in this little one
would also have been impossible!
- Old insuloma ferret that refused a piece of prednisolone
in Nutrical. I now have a more exact dose and a happier ferret.
- Client that must drive across town to a compounding pharmacy
for her seizuring cat’s Valium.
- Mini-lop bunny that does not need an entire pre-packaged
60 ml bottle of doxycycline.
- Oh-so-friendly patient that, short of injectables, is
impossible to medicate.
- The need for this kit in every animal hospital is obvious.
It is simply the practice of good medicine.
…stats proved the economic value of FLAVORx as well…clients
love it…senior staff can’t wait until they are
permitted to compound my prescriptions (They might have quite
a wait…It’s rather fun). [Your] pharmacologic
phone support is excellent. This is the “microwave”
of a veterinary pharmacy. Whatever did we do without it?"

"I recently saw a cat with infected skin lacerations
and puncture wounds. After suturing the lacerations and placing
Penrose drains, I placed the cat on Zenequin, flavored with
Chicken Pot Pie, for 14 days. The owner brought the cat in
for a re-check and told us how much the cat liked the medication.
She said the cat follows her around meowing when she sees
the medicine syringe! The owner’s son is on cold medicine
and antibiotics. It takes over 30 minutes for her son to take
the antibiotics. He wanted to know if his medicine could be
flavored like the cat’s!
I am really impressed with the FLAVORx System and have had
good luck with animal (and owner) compliance, in both dogs
and cats. Thanks for making things easier for all!"

"I want to express how happy I have been with the FLAVORx
Veterinary System. Our practice is 20% exotic pets…FLAVORx
allows us to easily compound medications into small, palatable
quantities for pets ranging from finches to primates. The
variety of flavors available and the ‘recipe’
book makes it easy to use the System for the doctors and staff.
And when we did not have a particular recipe, your telephone
support people answered our questions promptly."
We have also brought back in-hospital compounding of methimazole
and metronidazole for cats. Previously we had to ship our
clients 35 minutes away to a local compounding pharmacy. We
now routinely flavor exotic pet medications and quite a few
cat medications. The Grilled Tuna is a hit with the cats,
and the Barkin’ Bubblegum works with the ferrets. GREAT
JOB on supplying veterinarians with a product that is easy
to use and works."
Dan H. Johnson, D.V.M.
Avian and Exotic Animal Care, P.A., Raleigh , NC
"As an exclusively avian and exotic animal practice,
we have always done a lot of in-house compounding. Most of
our patients require a specific dosage volume or concentration,
and frequently the quantity we dispense is very small. Before
FLAVORx, our hospital used generic cherry-flavored compounding
syrup. Birds, mammals, reptiles – every patient was
treated the same. Reports from owners that “he did not
like his medicine” were just part of the everyday routine.
We just figured that the frustration and inconvenience were
necessary in order for our patients to get better.
Then we added the FLAVORx System. [It] gives us the flexibility
to offer our clients a choice. We ask “How would you
like that flavored?”, and show them the FLAVORx menu.
Our clients are happier because they pick the flavor they
believe will work best, and that is the key: they believe
in it. It is hard to recommend a single flavor for all members
of a particular species. With this in mind, however, Apple
has worked great for guinea pigs and prairie dogs. Cheese
works well for rats, Chicken Pot Pie for hedgehogs and Banana,
for both ferrets and rabbits. Parrots love Peanut Butter and
fruit flavors.
Before FLAVORx, we were uncertain about the stability of
compounded drugs... But with the System, we have a standardized
format, accurate expiration dates and FDA-approved ingredients
verified by FLAVORx to be compatible with the drugs in the
FLAVORx Formulary. We save our clients time and money by compounding
in-house…Customer support has been fantastic…FLAVORx
has enhanced our practice…"

"One of the biggest problems any veterinary clinic faces
is lack of compliance when it comes to medicating an animal.
Most clients want to do what you ask them to do, and do give
an honest effort to give medications as directed. But they
may find that giving pills to an animal is tricky, at best,
or even dangerous, in some circumstances. Our clinic found
a good solution to this problem when we began using the FLAVORx
System. Our clients are finding the flavored solutions are
much more accepted by both dogs and cats, and we are seeing
better results because of them.
I recently diagnosed hyperthyroidism in a fifteen-year-old
cat, and the owners were sure they would never be able to
medicate her. They were also worried about the risks of surgery
and didn’t have the economic means to pursue chemotherapy.
In past experiences with trying to medicate her, even a ‘piller’
was completely ineffective. As a result, the cat was only
given about one in three doses of necessary medication. Her
family did not want her to suffer and were considering euthanizing
her. Instead, we started her on the methimazole solution offered
by FLAVORx Systems, using their Grilled Tuna flavor. The owner
reports that not only is the liquid much easier to use, but
that their cat actually looks forward to ‘treat time’.
I can see the results in the cat already – she’s
putting on weight, and her thyroid level is now down within
the normal range.
The FLAVORx System is used every day here…it only takes
a few minutes to make each prescription. This is a huge improvement over the past hassles of having to call a pharmacy and have
prescriptions compounded, and then waiting several days for
the prescription to arrive. Because none of the solutions
are made until they are needed, we don’t have problems
with the medications expiring before they are dispensed. The
solutions are easy to make, following instructions that are
simpler than most cookbook recipes. Any questions we’ve
had have been quickly answered by calling the information
hotline that FLAVORx offers.
The clients also get a kick out of choosing the flavor their
pet likes the most. We show them the chart and let them pick
a gourmet flavor. We also try to give the first dose to the
animals here at the clinic. Showing the client how to give
a liquid ensures compliance, but also lets us know that the
medicine won’t be rejected by the animal…This
is a win-win situation all around."

"Sugar’ has been a patient…for the last ten
years…Sugar was diagnosed with liver disease. Her condition
was slowly, but surely, deteriorating due to the fact that
her owner was unable to administer the medication at home.
Sugar would usually crunch the tablets, which were apparently
bitter. This would cause her to have excessive salivation,
which made both her owner and Sugar upset. Thanks to FLAVORx,
we are now able to compound Sugar’s medications into
liquid form. Sugar prefers Chicken Pot Pie or Black Angus
Beef…she thinks she’s getting a treat!"

"I'm writing to let you know how much we enjoy having
the FLAVORx System…We are a feline-only practice, and…many
owners have a difficult time trying to medicate cats…in
pill form. Being able to compound…into a flavored liquid
has increased our owner compliance and made medicating a more
pleasant experience for pets and owners alike. Our clients
always smile when they’re deciding if their cat will
prefer Chicken, Tuna, Beef or…Butterscotch.
My favorite FLAVORx success story is about Banks, a geriatric
cat…being treated for hypertension…He began treatment
before we had the FLAVORx system, and he HATED having pills
shoved down his throat. When we got the System, his medicine
was the first we compounded. Since then, he has grown to love
his Roasted Beef flavored medicine so much that he actually
comes to us and begs when it’s time for his medicine.
He licks the medication right off of the syringe…FLAVORx
has made a huge difference in his daily medication routine,
and the staff loves to medicate him now."

"When the FLAVORx System was initially presented to our
clinic, I was quite skeptical…I was not looking forward
to having another item in our 950 sq. foot operation. I was
not sure how the clients would respond, but it was worth a
try. The head clinician declared me ‘head chef”.
…I found how absolutely easy it was to use...clients
seem to really like the fact that they have a say in the flavor
that their pet is offered. Some pets have been reported to
lap their medicine off of a teaspoon…
The FLAVORx staff has proven to be extremely helpful…they
helped me immediately. Thank you, FLAVORx!"
