Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) February 15, 2007 - In a recent focus group held by FLAVORx, 100% of mothers expressed their desire for a home flavoring kit to improve the taste of liquid medications and bad tasting liquids for their children. Similarly an independent survey of 5,000 mothers revealed that 81% of mothers would purchase a kit that would allow them to safely flavor at home. With such strong indicators, FLAVORx has decided to heed the advice of mothers and develop an over-the-counter system that will allow parents to flavor unpalatable liquids without paying a visit to their pharmacist.
Forcing a child to swallow an unpleasant smelling or bitter tasting medication often ends in frustration, spit-out doses and traumatized children, not to mention the biggest concern of all -- that a child is unable to swallow the medication they need, when they need it. Though some experiences are more bearable than others, roughly 67% of mothers report that their children either dislike or hate the taste of their liquid medications, indicating that overwhelmingly, parents struggle with their children when it comes to taking medicine.
With the demands of juggling work and family life, parents are commonly in need of methods to help ease their schedules. The availability of a home flavoring kit allows parents to flavor bad tasting liquids safely in the comfort of their own home at times that are convenient to their children's needs (such as the middle of the night coughing spree) and to their own schedules. Bad tasting liquids such as over-the-counter cough suppressants, vitamins, analgesics, or even juices and other liquids could be easily flavored with the guidance of a simple-to-use instruction booklet. The process would take no longer than 30 seconds.
"It's no surprise that mothers know what would make their lives, and their children's lives, a lot easier. Why not let someone who benefits the most from FLAVORx help us figure out how to design a product that successfully fits their lifestyle?" says Kenny Kramm, FLAVORx President and CEO.
"We figured that if the mothers were going to help us design the kit, it'd be only fair to let the kids pick the flavors. Right now, our reports show that the clear favorites are Orange, Bubblegum, Grape and Watermelon," adds Kramm.
Just as flexibility exists in the system used behind-the-counter by pharmacists, the home flavoring kit components will also be designed in a manner that will allow parents to flavor the medications or bad tasting liquids to the child's liking. Combinations of flavors can be used, and more or less of certain components, including the FLAVORx Sweetening Enhancer, can be added depending on the child's taste preferences. Information from a separate study showed that experimentation with the kit and creating flavor combinations was an added incentive for children. A direct correlation was seen between the child's active involvement in flavoring and their willingness to take the medication. "If I made it, I know it's going to taste good," said Joey Spencer, age 10.
Accordingly, FLAVORx will maintain the high levels of concentration in its flavors so that only a few drops of the sugar-free flavoring will be needed. Since the flavors will be added at the time of dispensing, stability will be maintained. The flavors will exhibit the same exceptional level of quality as the pharmacy's flavors, guaranteeing that the flavors are inert, sugar-free, phosphate-free, alcohol-free, gluten free, casein free, sodium free and non-allergenic, and will not affect the medication's efficacy or stability.
The new product launch is anticipated around the first week of March. For more information, please visit www.flavorx.com/human/flavorit.asp or contact Teresa Chen at 800.884.5771 extension 234.
